The Power of Song for Those with Alzheimers & Their Caregivers - By Sally Abrahms

The isolation that a caregiver to someone with Alzheimer’s has can be profound. However, twenty-two people, half with early- to middle-stage dementia - the others their family caregivers - were given the opportunity to belt out tunes side by side as part of a New York City first-ever chorus known as The Unforgettables. Founded by Mary Mittelman, DPH, a public health specialist in brain aging at NYU Langone, she began the choir as part of her research on care-giving and care givers for people with dementia and Alzheimer’s.
